Well, it is now 12/23/12 and we are all still here, the world is still spinning around. I looked at the end time prophecy as entertainment, not something that I should base my life decisions on. There was a movie,2012, which showed all of these mega disasters around the world (which did not happen by the way). I remember back in 1982 there was a planetary lineup which was supposed to cause major quakes around the world which would change the shapes of the continents. Again,, did not happen. How many times has the end of the world been forecast? It will end one day but far, far into the future and mankind may well be a forgotten memory. Is that an oxymoron??

Hi, I lost power last evening and it brought home to me just how dependent we are on the electric socket. My parents generation grew up in the south without electric power, no running water and no indoor plumbing. My mother and grandmother could cook on a wood burning stove. I still remember my grandm other calling us to say she had bought a gas stove, I believe that I was in my early teens then.

giving thanks
It is now one week ,since the huge storm hit the eastern United States ,Hurricane Sandy. The effects were felt as far west as Ohio. Here, in Cleveland we had heavy, persistent, rain and high winds. This brought down a large number of trees which brought down power lines. Large parts of the city and surrounding suburbs were without power.I lost my power for a day and a half and I consider myself fortunate because I know some people who are still without a week later. It makes me appreciate my blessings of home, health, and family.

hi, I am still in the process of setting up my latest computer. so far I have loaded most of my programs and files but there is still much organization to be done. When I am done I hope to be able to get much more use out of my computer. So far, I use it mainly to work on my photos and to download ebooks. I would like to learn how to do word processing so that I can write my great novel-ha ha.This will be a good retirement project for me. I do not anticipate being bored or at a loose end like some of my relatives. I won;t be able to travel like I had hoped because of the drop in the value of the dollar and the precarious world political situation.

HOT,HOT,Summer
Here, in Cleveland , we are having such warm weather and the only consolation is that it is not as warm as the west, such as Kans.as or Oklahoma where it has been over a 100 degrees. Is this a one time fluke or is this the beginning of a climate tipping point? We had record warmth in March when we had almost a week of 80 degree temps in our area and the winter in our area was mild also. If this is the sign of the times we are in for some very high food prices due the drought in the Midwest.

Hi this is the first week of my vacation and while I had hopes of accomplishing many tasks but on the second day of vacation I threw my back out so I've been dealing with low back pain. Advil helps a lot plus sleeping with a pillow under my knees. But on a more positive note I did get some things done. I had some trees cut down and the plumber came out to fix my slow drains, unfortunately he had to make a return visit to repair a pipe which sprung a leak. I just hope that that was the only rusted spot or I will be facing an expensive problem. Oh well, I can only hope. Tomorrow, I leave for Toronto with Raquel-hope we have a good time. The weather looks like rain for both days.

Hi, today is June 26 and I'm contemplating just what I have accomplished for the first half of this year, not much. I haven't lost weight , made much headway in reorganizing my house or my finances. However, I did get an estimate for my deck railing replacement and just yesterday I test drove two cars. You don't get much for the money nowadays. The small cars feel like tin cans with cheap interiors. Even though my car is thirteen years old I think it is better than the ones I looked at yesterday{Hundai}.

I haven't made an entry in quite awhile. Now that I've logged on again I find that changes have been made in the setup-chnages never ending. What has been happening with me? Well, I've made the decision to retire this year since I am 66 and I want to enjoy life while I am still in reasonably good health plus in my right mind. Healthwise I take after my mother's side of the family. There is a lot of high blood pressure and heart disease. Many people in my mother's family died in their fifties. My father's family are longer lived but they developed dementia in their eighties. I hope neither happens to me.
My main priority is fixing up my house. There are some repairs which need to be done, such as replacing my upstairs deck railing. I also need to get some trees trimmed or cut down. New furniture is also on the agenda. But the biggest item is getting my son Brian on his feet and out of my house.

my son surprised me with dinner at a Japanese restaurant for my 66th birthday. I had steak and shrimp teriyaki which was quite good. As an aside, the restaurant was crowded with Sunday diners. Despite a poor economy people are still going out to eat.
